Un rayon de soleil dans une semaine de m**de - Ray of Light de Deborah Lippmann

Bonjour tout le monde! Il y a des semaines avec (Lélie) et des semaines sans (Lélie), pour moi ce fut une semaine sans, et pour vous une semaine sans Lélie. Ma cheville m'a fait souffrir le martyr toute la semaine, limitant énormément le temps que je pouvais passer à mon bureau et donc les possibilités de manucures et photos. Parce qu'évidemment, il fallait quand même que je bosse, donc j'ai dû me priver des trucs sympas... jusqu'à jeudi, où la factrice m'a apporté un colis en provenance de la constellation fruitière, pays de ma copine Banancosmic.Parce que la Banane intersidérale, de son doux nom Léa, elle trouvait que ce n'était pas assez de m'écrire un poème et de me faire un NA pour mon anniversaire, noooon, elle m'a envoyé une boîte pleine de merveilles...

 "Des bricoles" qu'elle disait sur son petit mot... c'te blague! Un adorable bougeoir Clochette sur lequel je louche depuis des années tout en me disant "nan, t'en a pas besoin!!", un collier en plastique magique qui est juste magnifique, je suis épatée (je n'y connais rien au plastique magique donc je suis comme une gosse de 4 ans face à ça!!) et un vernis Deborah Lippmann d'un bleu sublime rempli de flakies multichromes. J'vous le montre de plus près :

Sublime n'est-ce pas? C'est un jelly, mais en deux couches on ne voit aucun bord libre, donc ça me va bien. En revanche, top-coat obligatoire sinon les flakies donne un rendu terne.

 

 

J'avais besoin de magie pour me sortir de ma semaine de merde et grâce à toi ma Léa, ça a marché. Depuis, ma cheville va de mieux en mieux (aujourd'hui ça gonfle beaucoup mais c'est la chaleur, la douleur est quasiment partie!) et j'ai de la magie au bout du doigt, mon moral est au beau fixe. Merciiiiiii!!

Mon bikini de l'été - merci Essie

Bonjour! Désolée si vous espériez des photos de moi en bikini, ce n'est pas pour tout de suite, d'autant plus que je ne vais pas vraiment avoir de vacances cette année, donc aucun besoin d'un maillot de bain. Il s'agit bien d'un vernis, un des tout derniers Essie, éponyme de la collection été 2012, Bikini so Teeny. Je ne sais pas si la couleur est pour vous évocatrice du maillot de bain, mais personnellement oui, c'est exactement la couleur d'un sublime bikini en dentelle anglaise Morgan que je possédais il y a de nombreuses années, un bleu entre le bleu layette et le bleu pervenche, à la fois doux et punchy. 

 Le petit plus de ce vernis étant les micro-paillettes argent qu'il contient, paillettes qu'on distingue à peine dans le flacon ou sur les ongles mais qui ajoutent un je-ne-sais-quoi et sortent ce vernis de la catégorie "crème". Côté technique, le vernis est un peu liquide, mais rien d'insurmontable et il est opaque en deux couches. En revanche, un point important dont je vous reparlerai rapidement, je vous déconseille le top-coat, car j'en ai essayé 3 différents et ils ont tous foncé le vernis d'une teinte. Le résultat reste joli, mais c'est dommage.

 

 

 

J'aime vraiment beaucoup cette couleur, mais  une chose me gêne: comme le vernis est liquide et qu'on ne peut pas ajouter de top-coat, je trouve qu'il "marque" mes ongles: j'ai une plaque ongulaire assez courte et à la démarcation du bord libre, ça peut faire une marque si le vernis n'est pas très épais, défaut qui est facilement corrigé par un top-coat, mais là, sur les photos, je trouve que ça se voit beaucoup. Et je me suis dit que quitte à changer la couleur de base, autant y aller franchement, donc j'ai ajouté une couche de Twinkle, Twinkle de Sephora (les flakies bleus) et une couche de Matte About You d'Essie (je cherchais l'inspiration en lisant mes blogs préférés, j'ai vu une manucure flakies + mat dans la bannière de Pshiiit et j'ai fait bingo). 

 

Demain, je vous reparle de cette histoire de top-coat qui change la couleur et je vous ferai quelques comparaisons (mais là, j'peux pas, j'suis en panne de cotons!!)

Des flakies chez Sephora??

Quand on est NPA, il y a des rituels. Comme passer chez Sephora à chaque fois qu'on va en centre-ville, même si on connaît les collections OPI par coeur. Certes, récemment, Sephora nous a gâté en proposant Sally Hansen et Nails Inc., j'y reviendrai bientôt. Mais franchement, samedi dernier, je ne m'attendais vraiment pas à ça:

Ces deux petits bijoux (bon, y'en avait un troisième, mais ce sera pour un autre article) m'ont fait de l’œil depuis la gamme de vernis Sephora et j'ai vraiment marqué l'arrêt. Je vous présente donc Twinkle, Twinkle et Purple Jewelery, qui sont des top-coats flakies.  Pour vous les présenter, je les ai mis sur une base claire, Essie Topless & Barefoot et sur une base noire, A-England Camelot, en deux couches de bases et deux couches de flakies.

Je vous avouerais que je suis un peu déçue par Purple Jewellery, vu la couleur dans le flacon, je m'attendais à des flakies dans les tons roses/violets/bleus, et pas des "classiques" oranges-verts comme le Gosh Rainbow, le Nfu Oh 38 ou le Essie Shine of the Times. Mais pour toutes celles qui n'ont aucun de ces vernis, le Sephora est une alternative sympa, il et facile d'application et bien dense.

Twinkle-Twinkle est sympa, on ne voit pas bien les différentes couleurs en photo mais il passe du bleu au violet, et je n'avais pour l'instant aucun vernis équivalent. Dans tous les cas, je trouve vraiment bien que des vernis de ce genre se démocratisent et puissent être accessibles au plus grand nombre. On est loin de l'époque où j'ai commencé mon obsession et où il fallait des trésors d'ingéniosité pour trouver ce genre de bijoux!!

Friends' Friday - The girl with Cherry Red Cheeks

 Hi girls! Back with a Friend's Friday and today is a special one. I told you some time ago that I had won a contest with Cherry's Shop, and just before that Minnie and I had placed an order, so I now have plenty of lovely things from that shop to make me happy!!

On the right is the blue layer-cake pendant, and then the two rings and one earring from the contest (my room is a mess, I couldn't find the other earring). Those jewels inspired me for several nail-arts, so get ready for pretty fingers!!

For the layer cake inspiration, I first thought of going for a cupcake nail-art, but dear Camille published it first (biatch :p ), so I tried to reproduce the layer-cake on my nails. The colour I used on the other nails is Essie No More Film, a gorgeous purple-leaning deep blue that applies like a dream and levels itself to a wonderfully glossy finish. For the nail art, I used Mavala white, Kiko 339 and Zoya Kirsten.

 

 

I first applied a coat of white, then place three pieces of striping tape horizontaly and sponged the other colours on my nail. Then I finished by doing an irregular French with the dotting tools and added some blue spots for the blueberries.

For the adorable bow ring, I first did a stamping nail-art on a pale pink polish, but as I told you, those pictures are trapped on my computer. Yesterday, I was wearing Essie Pink a Boo and was struck by how close it was to the ring, so since I had not swatched it yet, I decided to add it to this post.

 

 

Pink a Boo is quite hard to photograph, it has those little blue and pink glass flecks but they don't show as such on the nail, just giving it a nice depth.

Finally came the opal earrings. Marie loves opal nails and I suspect she used China Glaze's Snowglobe (yes, cause Marie also has a beautiful blog) to do the earrings, but I don't have that beauty, so I tried to obtain the same result as best as I could...

 

 

For this I used three coats of Waltz, then one coat of Debby 38 and finished with one coat of Nfu Oh 38. I absolutely loved the result, it's just gorgeous. So if you're as smitten as me by Marie's jewels and her nail-arts, you now know where to go!!

Essie To Buy or Not to Buy

 Hi everyone! I had completely forgotten to prepare a post for today, I've been very busy yesterday with Spring tidying/cleaning the whole place (including my office, urgh, and my bedroom wardrobe, urgh bis) and then a friend called to take Minnie and I to the cinema. We went to see John Carter, which was actually quite fun and entertaining!
So all in all, nothing was ready for this morning and I decided to show you my fresh manicure and keep all the pictures I have in store for when I'm away: I'm going to Paris from Wednesday to Sunday, but hopefully this time my pc won't die on me and I'll be able to leave you with programmed articles.
To the polish then, the very appropriately named "To Buy or Not to Buy" from Essie's Spring Collection "Navigate Her". I looked at this polish 100 times, thinking "come on, another mauve, you don't need it", but the little blue and pink flakies were winking at me, and the other day, Minnie and I were in town feeling a bit low and we decided to each buy one treat for ourselves. She went for a heavenly good chocolate and marshmallow bar from the best chocolate maker in town, and I went for that polish.
It's a light pink-leaning mauve with very small pink and blue flakies, which are sadly way more visible in the bottle that on the nail, but you can still see them on your hands, somehow. I didn't really manage to catch them on pic with the crappy weather here today though... You see it in two coats, it's easily opaque and the slight application problems I had were more due to the brush (it's a French Essie so it has a wider brush than the US version) than to the polish in itself. Top-coat is necessary since the flakies make the polish a bit dull when dry.

2012 is Flakies Year - Nfu Oh 38

In case you hadn't noticed, this year is meant to be the big Flakie year: after Essie and their Luxeffect collection that contained one flakie polish (if memory serves), Finger Paints released an entire collection, and we can only guess that other big brands are going to do the same. Before that, flakie polishes were quite hard to find, the main brand for them being Nfu Oh which is by no mean a widely accessible brand. But still, I've had their biggest hit n°38 in my stash for a while, so I decided to show you what it looked like.

Flakies are flat colour-shifting particles that are usually contained in a jelly or clear polish, so flakie polishes are more for layering than for wearing alone (well, you can wear them alone, but you'd need several coats, and usually the effect is less strong). Nfu Oh 38 is a rainbow flakie, meaning a clear base with flakies going from orange to green, that will pop out more over a dark base. To show you the various colours you can get, I did two sets of swatches. First is, from thumb to pinkie: OPI Pepe's Purple Passion, A-england Avallon, Essie Topless and Barefoot, A-england Lady of the Lake and OPI Expresso Your Style.

Second set is, from thumb to pinkie: Orly Sweet Peacock, Orly Peachy Parrot, OPI From Monop' With Love, Orly Lucky Duck and OPI Lady in Black.

I'm not overly keen on flakies, for me they have all the inconvenients of glitter (in terms of removal for instance) without being as pretty, so I'm very happy with the few I have (Nfu Oh 38, I also showed you Nfu Oh 51, and I consider Orly Fowl Play as a flakie polish, or rather a polish with flakies since it can't be layered), but I don't think I'll get any more. Friends' Friday - A Glitter-Nailed Girl with Cherry Red Cheeks

I originally intended to skip the Friends' Friday this week because I have tons of things I want to show you before the year is over, but the lovely Marie posted a plea on Facebook to reach 100 fans before Sunday, so I decided to help her. I discovered Marie's blog a short while ago, through the French Hellocotton network, and it was an instant crush. Firstly because Marie has the kind of hands that make me dream, with long slender fingers and long nail-plates, and we both love girly polishes and glitter. But it's really when I discovered first her jewel shop Cherry's Shop, and then her general blog Cherry Red Cheeks that I completely fell for her world, imagination and creations. I can only encourage you to wander there and get enchanted just as I was.

Since it was a "spur of the moment" post, I looked quickly on Marie's blog to find a polish or nail-art I could present, and the first I found was Nfu Oh 51. It's not really representative of her, but I really lack time to do better, and since she has two blogs, nothing stops me from doing another post another time ;).

So, Nfu Oh 51 is a purple jelly polish with multicoloured flakies which works better layered over a dark base. If you layer it over black, you won't see much difference between 51 and the clear Nfu Oh 38, so I layered it over a-england Elaine and started to shoot like mad to show you the many aspects of that beauty!
