NYE magic - Hugo Cabret

While I will keep posting about nail polish, I've decided to share other things with you such as movies and books for example. Just so you know, I'm on holidays at the end of this week, and Minnie is taking me to London (yeessssss!!!) so I'm gonna prepare nail polish posts for when I'm gone, which is why I'll be more in blabbering mode until then :p.

So, on New Year's Eve, Minnie and I went to the cinema: none of us is very much the kind to do a big party, and anyway Super MD had yet another crazy week at work, so we wanted a quiet nice evening. It's actually very nice to go to the cinema on NYE, there's a very special atmosphere!

We went to see Hugo Cabret, just because we had liked the aesthetics of the poster and not really knowing what to expect, and we were enchanted!

It's my first time writing a movie review so I'm not sure how to do it, hopefully I won't spoil anything and give you some wish to go and see it :)

Hugo Cabret is a young orphan boy who lives clandestinely in the Parisian station Gare de Lyon in the 1930s, winding up the clocks as his uncle taught him to do before disappearing. But his real work is elsewhere, as he tries to collect pieces to fix a writing automaton, the only thing he has left from his father. Will he find all the missing pieces? More importantly, will he find the special heart-shaped key that will wind the automaton up, enabling him to write again? And if yes, what message will it give to the little boy?

I didn't see it in 3D, the choice was between 3D and original version, you can guess which option we went for, but while some views would indeed look amazing in 3D, I didn't find the movie was lacking something in 2D.

I will say that if you liked Chocolat, you'll probably love this movie. It has this same quality of having no real boundary between reality and fairy-tale, with a whole crew of secondary characters on the edge of caricature that are very touching. The fact that they're all played by familiar faces sur as Jude Law, Sacha Baron Cohen, Richard Griffiths, Frances de la Tour, Helen McCrory (the last three fresh out of Harry Potter!!) and Sir Christopher Lee (as the nice old librarian, he's just fantastic, as always) is a wonderful bonus! Of course, the main actors are equally up to the task: the two kids are amazing and Ben Kingsley goes from scary old men to magician with an incredible talent and credibility. Add to this that the movie is a beautiful tribute to one of the greatest magicians of the history of cinema and if you still don't feel like running to the nearest theatre, I don't know what I can do for you!!

 

Bad news of the day: my computer has decided it wouldn't start today, so I'm gonna try to prepare a lot of articles from Minnie's computer, but if you see me disappear, blame it on modern technology!!

Le propos principal de ce blog est et restera le vernis et les produits de beauté, j'ai envie de partager d'autres choses comme des lectures ou des films. Et comme je suis en vacances à la fin de la semaine et que Minnie m'emmène à Londres (ouiiiiiii!!), je vais préparer des posts vernis et les programmer pour mon absence, donc pour l'instant, vous allez devoir supporter mon blabla :p

Le soir du Nouvel An, Minnie et moi sommes allées au cinéma: nous ne sommes ni l'une ni l'autre du genre à aimer les grosses soirées, et vu la semaine que le Super Docteur avait eu, on avait prévu un réveillon tranquille. C'est un super moment pour aller au cinéma en fait, il y a une ambiance très spéciale et très sympa!
Nous sommes allées voir Hugo Cabret, sans vraiment savoir à quoi s'attendre, mais l'esthétique des affiches nous a intriguées!

C'est la première fois que j'écris une revue de film, j'espère que je ne vais rien gâcher du suspens et vous donner envie d'aller le voir :)

Hugo Cabret est un jeune orphelin qui vit clandestinement dans la Gare de Lyon dans le Paris des année 30, remontant les horloges comme son oncle le lui a appris avant de disparaître. Mais son vrai travail est ailleurs, quand il cherche des pièces pour réparer un automate-scribe, la seule chose qui lui reste de son père. Pourra-t-il réparer l'automate, et surtout comment va-t-il trouver la clé en forme de coeur qui lui permettra de le remonter? et si oui, quel message l'automate va délivrer au petit garçon?

Ce film est disponible en 3D mais pour nous le choix était entre la 3D et la VO, vous imaginez quelle option on a pris! Mais même si certains plans donnent envie de les voir en 3D, la grande majorité du film ne perd rien à être vue en 2D en tout cas moi ça ne m'a pas manqué.

Si vous avez aimé le film Le Chocolat avec Juliette Binoche et Johnny Depp, vous aimerez sans doute celui-ci, car ils ont en commun cette frontière un peu floue entre réalité et conte de fées, avec une troupe de seconds rôles qui sont presque caricaturaux mais tellement attachants. Le fait qu'ils soient interprétés par des visages familiers tels que Jude Law, Sacha Baron Cohen, Richard Griffiths, Frances de la Tour, Helen McCrory (tous trois sortis directement d'Harry Potter!!) et Sir Christopher Lee (dans le rôle du gentil bouquiniste, simplement fantastique, comme toujours), ce n'est que du bonheur supplémentaire. Bien sûr, les rôles principaux n'ont pas non plus à rougir : les deux enfants sont très convaincants et Ben Kingsley passe du vieillard grincheux au doux rêveur avec une facilité déconcertante et une crédibilité incroyable! Ajoutons à cela que ce film est un sublime hommage à l'un des plus grands magiciens du cinéma, et si je n'ai pas réussi à vous donner envie de courir au cinéma le plus proche, je ne peux rien faire pour vous!!

 

La mauvaise nouvelle du jour est que mon ordinateur a décidé de ne plus s'allumer ce matin, donc je vais essayer de travailler un max depuis le pc de Minnie, mais si je disparais, ce sera la faute de la technologie!
